Diaspora in War
In 2022, the 10th DIAFF issued a statement calling for an end to the war and wished for peace in Ukraine. A year has passed, but the war is still going on. Film cameras never hesitated to take the lead in heading to the battlefield. This year’​s ‘Diaspora in Focus’ presents feature films that depict the trauma of war in the background of Ukraine, and documentaries that make their way to the forefront of the battlefield. Scarred by the division and dispersion by the Korean War, Korean audiences in particular can be heavy hearted. As one says, reality always overwhelms fiction, and we despair at the leaders of the two Koreas and neighboring countries who seem to forget the tragic history and talk irresponsibly about war.
