Program Note

What can we do to confront the violence and suffering occurring on the other side of the world? The shock delivered by live footage that instantly bridges vast distances is brief, and the reality of those faraway images still seems far from becoming our own issue. That's why the director's concern lies in trying to shed light on the horrors of Gaza through a theatrical performance. Two Cameras for Palestine is a desperate attempt to fill the vast, unbridgeable gap. Although a play was staged, the war rages on. Palestinian students in Korea, living two separate lives—one in peaceful Korea and the other marked by the ongoing tragedy of their homeland—suffer from the conflict between these two worlds. For them, who once waved their hands into the void, demonstrations and marches became a means of connecting with one another. In addition to filming the play, the director picks up yet another camera, deciding to capture this very street. By interviewing them and including the camera filming the interviews in the same frame, the director seeks to narrow the distance between them and, through the people filling the streets, draws hope from the collective.
