As German troops approach Paris, Georg tries to escape to the seaside city of Marseille in Southern France. By chance, he obtains the identification and transit documents of a famed writer Weidel and attempts to use them to flee the country. However, everything changes when Georg meets Mari, Weidel¡¯s wife. German director Christian Petzold, known for his works on political and social unrest in modern Germany, brings the theme ¡®identity¡¯ to the fore in this film. Even if Georg successfully escapes the country with his false identity, he must continue to take on the life of another. Transit is based on Anna Seghers¡¯s novel of the same name, which was written in during her exile from the Nazi regime. Whereas the novel is set during the Second World War, this film takes place in modern day France, offering a bold new take on a classic story that film critics have hailed as a ¡®reinterpretation of Casablanca through the lens of Franz Kafta.¡¯ (LEE Jong-chan)
