Middle-aged Yoon-hee and Jun used to be a same-sex couple back in high school, but had to break up because of their family's disapproval. Then, Yoon-hee got married while Jun left for Japan. They have lived life as strangers, suppressing their longing and desire for each other. Eventually divorced, Yoon-hee travels to Otaru, Japan with her daughter Sae-bom, where Jun is living. In Otaru, Yoon-hee and Jun finally reunite but instead of pursuing a future together, they decide to return to their separate lives. In the first place, the purpose of the trip was to find the root cause of Yoon-hee's stranger-like loneliness. Therefore, it results in only the act of shining light on an old shadow and not a happy ending in which a past couple gets together again. It is not about successfully restoring a failed past in the present, but about being free from that past. Their extensively grieved past transitions into a strong will to live the future without being strangers. (KIM Kyung-tae)
