With her father, a girl is looking for her mother who has left them. Her father claims that his Vietnamese wife betrayed him and ran away, but the bruises on the girl¡¯s face proves that the father¡¯s domestic violence was the reason she ran away. Eventually, the girl¡¯s mother returns and the father¡¯s domestic violence continues. But this time, the girl doesn¡¯t hold back and decides to makes a choice different from her mother. The girl¡¯s mother cannot resist or fight back to the father¡¯s violence because she cannot speak Korean. On the other hand, there are immigrant women who do not speak Korean but fight against violence in their own languages, that are close to the girl¡¯s her Korean-speaking aunt. The film Unknown Morning clearly shows that resistance against violence and absurdity does not only depend on the ability to communicate, but rather the individual¡¯s own will. This is the fourth short film of KANG Ji-sook, who won best film at the 9th Seoul International Senior Film Festival for First Love. (LEE Dong-yun)
