Synopsis
"Don't worry. You're safe with me."
6-year old Moo-nee, living in a ¡®Magic Castle¡¯ across the street from Walt Disney World in Florida, goes on an adventure with her friends that is more magical than Disney World.
Statement of Selection
Florida is generally considered a wealthy American state, being renowned for its robust tourism industry. At the same time, it also has a large income gap and a diverse demographic; the state is comprised of immigrants, refugees, and retirees that all live and mingle together. Florida is also home to the world¡¯s largest Disney Resort: Disney World. However, right next to the famed resort that attracts tourists from around the world, are also people that have nowhere to go. Here, children are also among those without a home. The Florida Project is a silent glimpse into the lives of these children growing up between the colorful buildings of Florida. They have no home and nowhere to go, yet they play, eat ice cream, and hold each other¡¯s hands. DIAFF has chosen The Florida Project to take glimpse into the lives of these children. The film observes how opportunities are cut off for those living in a space among people of different races, regions, and nationalities. At the same time, it remarks at the possibility of being able to hold each other¡¯s hands in such a space as these children do.
