DIAFF 2019
DIAFF 7th (2019)
“Visualizing the invisible.” After you watch YIM Soon-rye’s films, you start to notice people that you never noticed before. “Waikiki Brothers” is a band that wanders around different nightclubs. It’s been a long time since the era of band music has died. To make matters worse, thanks to the karaoke culture, there are hardly any places left for them. As a film depicting the struggles of a music band, there are many oldies but goodies. But two songs stand out in particular. Waikiki Brothers is a film you need to watch at least twice, years apart. When you first watch it, you’ll remember the “Apartment” scene, and when you watch it a second time, the most memorable scene will be the “I Know Nothing But Love” scene. Order is not all that important. The concept of "difference" is when the film ends and a new film begins. (LEE Jong-chan)
