 Graeae: A Stationed Idea deals with the U.S. military bases in South Korea. Regardless of the critical debate over the residence of the U.S. military in Korea, the film focuses on the figure of the U.S. military in Korea in itself through myths and games. Even though the military bases exist in reality, they are not shown on the map due to military secrets. However, the reality of these places is exposed from the pocket stop, virtual space of the Pokémon game. The paradox of actual leakage of secret military bases in virtual space is similar to the U.S. Army bringing more American properties to their Korean bases than in the U.S. The film creates all these stories by overlapping the invisible director’s voice and the visible but non-substantial digital images. It raises questions about placeness by disrupting and reorganizing the senses of time, space, and psychologically at the same time. (LEE Seungmin)
