Han-oh, a 14 years old boy who lives in Korea with his mother, whose hometown is Vietnam, is from a so-called multicultural family. Some of his friends discriminate and make hate speech against Han-oh without hesitation. Han-oh gives a presentation as a class assignment about his future dream, that he wants to be a president who helps the weak and poor and makes Vietnam and Korea closer. However, what Han-oh remarked, makes him bullied even more by friends who used to pick on him. On the one hand, A Tropical Boy depicts the reality of violence Han-oh¡¯s experiencing, but on the other tries to embody Han-oh¡¯s real dream through the world of fantasy and imagination. What is the future that Han-oh wants? It is neither a grand ambition nor a feasible short-term goal. He only wants to be free from proving himself endlessly to people who ask which side he's on. But this freedom will eventually come in after cruel reality. This Han-oh¡¯s tough childhood hurts him again and again. (JEONG Ji Hye)
